This video explores two Baroque songs on the Edexcel Music GCSE syllabus: Henry Purcell’s ‘Music for a While’ (set work) and George Frideric Handel’s ‘Rejoice Greatly’ from ‘Messiah’ (suggested wider listening). Presenter Rachel Leach talks through the musical features of each song, including ornaments, word painting, ground bass and wider historical context. Musical examples and full performances are given by soprano Fflur Wyn and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, with ‘Rejoice Greatly’ conducted by Tim Murray.
