In this episode Marty, Jeff, and Stephen talk about steps you can take to test to be sure your broadcast is ready to go. Here’s their show notes:

Week 16 Notes
“Why I shouldn’t wait until the last minutes, to test!!”
When using tools like Wirecast, Why I shouldn’t wait until the day before the show to test. I should test weeks before to ensure I understand my workflow and understand what I need to accomplish before the show starts ꢀ
Examples of what can go wrong
Internet bandwidth issues with remote guests
• Always test the connection at least a few daysꢀ
• Testing should be in the same location and same connection as live
showꢀ
• This gives you time to troubleshoot and address any issues in advance.ꢀ
Equipment or software not working as expected
• Create a technical workflow that is repeatableꢀ
• Practice that workflow and rehearse so it becomes second nature
(practice makes perfect.)ꢀ
Learning to play a musical instrument id a good analogy.ꢀ
Your guest may be new to live video and may not be “on camera” ready
• Along with a technical test, work with your guest in advance to insure
they are comfortable and ready to be on camera.ꢀ • Rehearse ahead of timeꢀ
Not being familiar with your equipment and how it works
• You need to know how it works to deal with unforeseen issues and to troubleshoot quickly and effectivelyꢀ
• It’s not about the equipment, it’s about knowing how to best use your equipment.ꢀ
Not having a “Plan B”
• Have a plan in place in case your guest doesn’t show upꢀ • Have a plan in case your Internet goes down.ꢀ
Keep your audience informed and be ready to roll with your alternate planꢀ
